It would be nice if we selected presidential candidates based on their resumes, then someone like Richardson could have a fighting chance. Sadly, the candidate's actual qualifications are often secondary.

I agree. Richardson has the executive, legislative and foreign policy experience necessary to be President. It's sort of a shame - Americans almost always vote for the least qualified person.
Only one modern President - Johnson - took longer than 14 years to rise from his first elected office to the Presidency.
He Does have a chance as VP, though, and would make a great choice to pair with a candidate who is less experienced but more buzz-generating, like an Obama or Edwards for instance.
