It's nice that Edward's wants to give them another chance. Let's hope they have enough common sense not to put him in this position again. So far they haven't exhibited any.

Granted Donahue, the main accuser, is a bigot and has made many nasty anti-semitic comments himself but that doesn't change the nature of the bloggers' offensive remarks.

If they had made racist or anti-semitic remarks I don't know that I would have been happy with anything short of firing. Hope Edward's generosity doesn't come back to bite him because these two are clearly not rocket scientists when it comes to politics.

f.sage,

We should not hold every candidate responsible for everything everyone who works on his or her campaign has ever said before working on the campaign. The past comments of Marcotte and McEwen are not nearly as bad as the mainstream media would have you believe when compared to the anonymous spewings you can find on thousands of blogs every day.

300 Spartan's Gym,
Whether we should or shouldn't hold candidates responsible for everything their employees have said, people DO. And to be fair, if Edwards was a Republican and the bloggers in question had made racist remarks, even relatively mild ones compared to really hateful ones, progressives would be all over it. That's just the way it is.

Since Edwards himself says he found some of their comments very offensive, I'm sure he plans to do what he can to avoid being associated with similar views going forward and is none too pleased with finding himself in this position. Yes Donahue and his ilk are nasty little hypocrites but they aren't in the spotlight running for office. Edwards is.
