If Gore wins the Nobel, too, that's an awful lot of free coverage. Read that Donna Brazile, his 2000 campaign boss, thinks there is no need for Gore to decide now. Better to wait until the field is whittled down and then be ready to step in if the party needs to be rescued from degrees of crash and burn on the part of the current big three.
I think a Gore/Obama ticket might be worth consideration if Edwards can't get lift-off and the doubts about Obama's level of experience linger or intensify.
Alternately, if Obama makes it to the nomination, Richards, with more experience than anyone who has ever been elected president, would be a terrific VP for him.
I like our range of possibles a lot better than the Rs. We don't have anyone running who is strongly disliked by our base (though Hillary hasn't done very well on any of our local non-scientific blog polls), while the Rs don't yet have anyone in the top tier that their base is all that crazy about.
Gore's motto could be "elect me and this time make it stick!"
