Election day post: What's going on out there?

I spent this morning waving signs and calling voters for Bill Winter. And some of the folks I spoke with were not happy. I heard reports of hour-long waits, malfunctioning machines and provisional ballots.

I finally got to a computer after lunch. And it seems like all of Colorado has gone haywire. Problems in Weld County, Denver, and everywhere. In CD5, Jay Fawcett's offices were vandalized and his campaign received a death threat. Bill Ritter got a taste of the problems firsthand when he was forced to to stand in a two-hour line to vote. And in one precinct, a Republican candidate is reportedly standing inside the polling place telling judges to throw away contested ballots.

The wait times are so long, the Democrats have filed an injunction to keep polling places open late. And in some areas, they're running out of provisional ballots. But the Republican secretary of state claims everything is fine.

Everything is not fine. At this rate, we may not know the true results of several races for days. If ever.
