Winter: "Tancredo's polls have us in a dead heat"
Bill Winter is blogging at Square State and Daily Kos. Get your recommends in and your wallets out:
For the first time ever a Democrat has Tom Tancredo on the ropes, and we need to put him on the canvass. All I need now is the support to stay up on radio and direct mail - and hopefully television - until election day...
Tancredo's polls have us in a dead heat! If we win, it's a historic victory. If we just get very close, I'll run again and we'll raise 3 million dollars of our own and take this seat one way or the other!
I was able to drinks beers and discuss politics, activism and the future of blogging with Winter, TakeBackTheHouse, Johne, Tovah and Crashing the States last night.
I came home in time to watch Ed Perlmutter moderate a debate between himself and Rubber Stamp Rick O'Donnell. I'll explain what I mean by that when I post this afternoon.

Was great meeting you, Matt!
Kath! Ack, sorry I forgot you. Great to meet you too.
just heard that Winter's paying himself a salary from his campaign funds, legal?, Yes, ethical? I'll be sending my $$ to Angie, Jay and Ed.
For those of you who don't know, anonymous has been posting this exact same thing all over the Internet, including sites like CP and S2. And he's been getting the same two responses everywhere - "cite your source" and "who cares."
Candidates campaign fulltime. And for an educator who needs health insurance, that is an impossible financial burden. If I've been able to put food on Winter's table while he fights for me, I'm proud of that.
Source: Winter's latest FED report. Ethics: Posting a "highly questionable internal Tancredo poll" on local and national blogs - in a plea for campaign contributions - 3 weeks out - shouldn't he disclose to potential contibutors that he's taking a salary from his campaign funds? It may be technically legal, but its hardly ever done by any credible candidate at any level let alone US House of Reps. Who cares about ethics? How about you????
Link for all of the claims you made, please.
1. Show Winter's filing.
2. Prove that it's "hardly ever done."
3. Explain how Winter is supposed to eat without a salary.
FYI -- I know for a fact that Bill Winter is in his campaign office every day from 9-5 making phone calls and drumming up support. He'd probably have to pay a staffer to do the same thing -- if he's doing the work (and probably doing it better) then why not draw a salary? I don't think it's fair to judge whether it's "hardly ever done" when you are comparing it to independently wealthy candidates. Those are the establishment candidates. This guy is running a totally grass roots campaign. He's working his rear off. Give him a break.
