Scholastic backs away from ABC propaganda
An update on my post from this morning: Daily Kos reports that Scholastic has elected to drop "its original classroom companion guides to a controversial new docudrama." The miniseries is said to include wholly fictionalized scenes that blame the Clinton administration for 9/11.
Media Matters issued a press release that states, in part:
We applaud Scholastic's decision to pull flawed and misleading educational materials regarding 9-11 and the war on terror and to disassociate themselves from ABC's upcoming dramatic miniseries, "The Path to 9-11."
Kudos to Scholastic for refusing to be party to ABC/Disney's attempt to deceive the American public. If only Denver's Channel 7 had the same scruples. Their number is 303-832-7777.

That is excellent news.
But as an affiliate, I don't think Channel 7 has the option to refuse to play network programming. If they were to cover up network programming (and the accompanying commercials!) they would be in a heap of trouble and could lose their affiliation and their high local market ranking, thus their lucrative local ads, blah blah blah etc.
The network has to be pressured to drop it.
On the Jay Marvin Show, he was saying that it depends on whether the affiliate is independently owned.
Either way, it can't hurt. And since this is a local blog, I'm taking the local approach.
I asked my husband about it, and he reminded me that it can be done, as a few years ago a certain movie was blocked in several states. Stations can lose affiliation if they do it too much, though.
Know who refused to air what?
ABC affiliates refused to air Saving Private Ryan because of indecency.
I e-mailed channel 7 and got the response that it wasn't a documentary, but a "docudrama" and that naturally time would be compressed, events telescoped blah, blah blah. Now ABC is saying the editing isn't complete. Stay tuned.
