Perlmutter may have an edge in CD7

From a press release from Perlmutter for Congress:

We have always known that the race for the 7th CD is going to be one of the closest and most hotly contested campaigns in the Country, but today 9 News confirmed it! A new Survey USA Poll showed the race tied 45%-45%. The great news out of this poll is that Survey USA heavily over-sampled Republicans (44%) and under-sampled unaffiliated voters (21%) -- and among the key unaffiliated vote, Ed leads by nearly 20 points (48%-29%)! However, Ed is going to be outspent in this race and there is nothing the Republicans won't do or say to keep this seat... We only have 78 days left to set a new course for the 7th CD, Colorado and the Country and bring change to Washington DC, so we need everyone's help and support

Have you voted for Ed at Russ Feingold's PAC yet? (Or you could just donate directly to the campaign.)

Some of the numbers, especially those regarding unaffiliated voters, are very encouraging to the Perlmutter effort. The thing he most needs to do now is get a message and get it out. The primary is over, and it's time to stop with all that "I've been here all my life" hooey. There are many issues, like health care and social security, to name just two, on which Ed, as the Democrat in this race, has a distinct advantage over Dirty O'Donnell, or any other rape-ublican. All he has to do is talk about them! Yet, after having just had a look at both websites, I find Dirty taking the initiative on both of these issues. Of course, most of what is says is no more than right-wing claptrap, but sadly it's more than Ed is saying. If this poll tells us anything, it's telling us that it's time to take the gloves off.

In the Denver Post today there is a piece in the Briefing section about a new contender in the 7th. His name is Roger McCarville, American Constitution Party and he's running on an anti-illegal immigrant, pro-new import tax, abolishing the Dept. of Education and restricting local governments' ability to use eminent domain platform. This does not sound like a guy who is going to cut into the Perlmutter vote (although even an old lefty like me is against eminent domain to take from the working class to build luxery condos and retail for the wealthy). This sounds like exactly the edge we need to break that 45%/45% tie. Go McCarville!
