Janet Rowland

There's some stuff Janet Rowland probably should have told Both Ways Bob Beauprez before he tapped her to be his runningmate.

First, Colorado Confidential tracked down a questionnaire she filled out when she was running for county commissioner. Rowland wants to end the separation of church and state. ("It's not in the Constitution.") She wants to let all citizens carry concealed weapons without permits. She wants to outlaw all abortions. She opposes teaching evolution in schools, unless coupled with creationism. And she appears to want to outlaw atheism. ("We should have the freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion.")

Second, the Grand Valley Marriage Equality Council points out that when asked about gay marriage on Colorado State of Mind, Rowland responded by comparing homosexuality to "bestiality, polygamy and incest." And then she claimed gay couples already have the same legal protections as straight married couples. (A thread on ColoradoPols brought up this same rant.)

Normally, this is the spot where I make some witty comment or, failing that, crib a quote from a movie. But I just feel sort of ill.

UPDATE: Transcript and link to an mp3 of the Colorado State of Mind episode in the comments.

This, folks, is the person who will be the spokesperson for the Beauprez for Governor Campaign while Beauprez is back in Washington full time in September. If I were Ritter, I would take both balls and run with them. One ball being her, and the other ball being the absence of Both Ways Bob.

The transcript:

Janet Rowland: "...I do not hate [gays], but I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. Homosexuality is an alternative lifestyle. That doesn't make it a marriage. Some people have group sex. Should we allow two men and three women to marry? Should we allow polygamy with one man and five wives? For some, beastiality is an alternative lifestyle. Do we allow a man to marry a sheep? At some point, we have to draw a line."

For crying out loud! One statemnt that was rashly made does not define all aspects of a candidate. Move on and look at actual accomplishments and achievements! The real proof of a person’s ability to meet the public service challenge lies in their deeds. Lets get on with it and not stay centered on one issue.

Tom,

Are you sure you read my post? It covered several statements, including some written repsonses to a questionaire, which she would have had lots of time to mull over.

Also, you ask that we "get on with it and not stay centered on one issue." But you are the one commenting on a three-day-old post. If you'll notice, there are many, many other more recent posts that cover new and exciting issues.

Thank you for commenting.

Well she's right that the separation of church and state is not in our Constitution. It's in the Russian Constitution, did you not know that??? As for the restrictions on abortions, that's nothing new on the Rep. platform. So why make it sound so shoking? Most conservatives have the same views. As for teaching evolution in schools, she's right on that one. Evolution is a theory, filled with holes, it's not fact. If we are going to teach someone's theory then why not teach all theories? It's like saying you're going to teach kids a religion but not all religions. As for outlawing atheism, your comment is a little ignorant. There is nothing wrong with her comment. She too has a right to her oppinion. "We should have the freedom OF religion, not the freedom FROM religion.")
Your slamming of Rowland shows your ignorance and lack of intelligence not to mention common sense.
