Daily doings in Democratic CD7

I write about Bill Ritter and Bill Winter. Both Ways Bob and Joe "Per Diem" Stengel. Immigration and stem cell research. All sorts of meaningful stuff. But nothing inflames Coloradolib readers like the CD7 Democratic primary. So here's your red meat for Wednesday, July 12.

Item #1: A source I respect told me AM 760 morning DJ Jay Marvin had pulled his endorsement of Peggy Lamm and thrown his support to Herb Rubenstein. Marvin's producer told me a different story: Marvin has donated to Peggy's campaign, but supports all three candidates in CD7.

Item #2: Coloradopols reports Ed Perlmutter's TV ad will break tomorrow. I made a (very) small cameo in the ad.

Item #3: Roll Call has obtained the results of a two-month-old Lake Research Partners poll. The poll shows that Lamm would whup Republican wingnut Rick O'Donnell harder than her Democratic rivals would. From a press release from the Lamm campaign:

In an "if the election were held today" question, 40% of respondents supported Lamm, while 39% backed O'Donnell, with 21% undecided. In an identical question pitting Perlmutter against O'Donnell, 38% supported the Republican and 32% supported the Democrat, with 30% undecided.

The sad thing, of course, is that O'Donnell is even close. The Republican's campaign is a mess and he has neither the moderate support or the solid credentials of his Democratic rivals.

Can we please end the CD7 Democratic primary as soon as possible?

Well, I've got a lot to say to this blog, because I too am outraged by the wishy-washy behavior of most of the CD7 candidates at this point.

First, I heard Herb Rubenstein on Jay Marvin, and I know for a fact that he has decided to formally endorse Herb, though yes, he does in fact support all three candidates.

Second, it's about time Ed gets something going. According to the latest poll at coloradopols.com, Ed isn't even close to catching up with Rubenstein and Lamm... so I think he needs to just withdraw his seat now. ;) And I really don't think this Ad will "get him back in this race"... because Herb Rubenstein has already made an ad before all the other candidates, and PEggy just recently made an ad, so if Ed wants to do something to catch voter attention, he might wanna try and break out of the norm.

Thirdly, can anyone tell me why Lamm's little poll didn't even include Herb Rubenstein? Seems to me that HE'S her new competition, so if she wants true statistics to support herself, she might want to try and acknowledge her other candidate, who is quickly surging and gaining populartity.

What do you all think?

Hmm.. whatever you say, Kathryn. Anyways, that isn't the point. I perosnally just don't see Peggy Lamm suitable as a congresswoman, and I am shocked to see her ahead in the polls. Hopefully CD7 will come together and realize what a total wishy-washy nutcase she is.

The poll was not done by the Lamm campaign. The article said: "portions of a two-month-old Lake Research Partners poll obtained by Roll Call."

Just want to point that I edited this post slightly. I thought the poll was a Lamm poll. It was actually a Lake Research, conducted two months ago. All apologies.

Right, I know that the poll was a Lake Research poll, but I'm not sure if any of you received Peggy's newsletter this morning. She states that she conducted the poll and is ahead of all the candidates, and was her plan not to include Rubenstein in the poll.

This just bites. CD7 is ours to lose and it looks like we're determined to lose it. A bloody three way primary is the last thing we need. Let's all try to remember what's at stake here.

No matter which candidate gets selected to run, that candidate will be a freshman congressperson, not a powerful leading force, with nothing more than one vote. Whatever their positions are on each issue, as long as the Republicans control the house, chair all the committees, set the agenda, hold the power to initiate investigations etc., the best we can get is having that one vote go to support good legislation or non-bonding resolutions that can never pass in a Republican congress anyway.

So priority #1 has to be taking back the house. That's the way the Republicans have done it. That's why they don't turn on their few remaining incumbent moderates at election time. They know that 1)those less than conservative candidates are in districts where a far rightie won't win, 2) they only have one vote a piece but count toward the majority the Republicans need to be in control of everything that matters and 3) when it comes to issues that are really vital to the controlling right wing leadership of the party they can bring their mavericks to heal most of the time by letting them know that if they don't vote the right way they won't get funding for projects in their districts.

If we want anything more than to be able to make statements in doomed non-binding resolutions, we have to remember that ALL Dems in congress, whether they are our favorites or not, count toward the headcount and that is the only thing that will transfer power from the wacko right to us. All of us, including the candidates involved, need to do what's best for the team and that means settling this thing as bloodlessly as possible and making sure the candidate who gets nominated is the one with the very best chance to win. Once in, our base will naturally push our party to the more progressive side just as the conservative base has pushed the Republican party to the right. Its called politics. And I find Lamm's poll highly suspicious.

On the air Jay Marvin said he supports Rubenstein. That is what he said. Of course that probably is a reflection of how few people actually listen to the show as no one but four or five people heard it.
Rubenstein's commercial is strong and powerful. It is one of the strongest spots I have seen. It will move votes his way.
Lamm and Perlmutter have all polled recently. Instead of talking about hypothetical races with Rick O'Donnell why don't they release the head to head numbers between Rubenstein, Lamm and Perlmutter? It is interesting that there have been no leaks of recent poll results. It is also interesting that Lamm only began to attack after her new poll numbers came in.
Ed Perlmutter having a seven day head start on the air over Lamm may allow him to catch and pass Peggy while she is off the air.
But should not the editor of Coloradolib tell us about the commercial or at least being a good liberal join the Screen Actors Guild so that he will be paid union scale?

If all the polls show Peggy being in the lead, then why is she attacking Perlmutter still? She needs to give it a rest. The fact of the matter is that this is a three way race between Rubenstein, Lamm, and Perlmutter... but the current poll at http://coloradopols.com/frontPage.do?nextDiaryId=2 shows that the race seems to rather be between Rubenstein and Lamm. Heads up, Peggy, you've got some competition.

I think Lamm needs to get over her wishy-washy crap and stop trying to attack her opponents. Get over it, Peggy, we voters want to hear about THE ISSUES.

Sorry, Anonymous at 3:43, but I'm not really sure what the commercial is about. Before appearing in it, my only caveat was that I wouldn't be in a commercial that made outright attacks on Lamm or Rubenstein. Beyond that, I am happy to support Perlmutter and honored that his campaign thought to include me in their process.

And my SAG card has lapsed. Such is life.

good for you spartan /if you had even a modicum of integrity you would have asked to be paid union scale / there is a local screen actors guild that could have provided extras. Of course you scorn unions as all your pals work at Starbucks and that is a way cool place to work / gotta love you phony liberals.

Good grief, Anonymous. You really ought to look into some serious therapy! Is there anything at all that doesn't send you into a bitter rage? Pure unadulterated grumpiness might be your idea of fun, but Spartan and friends are working to help us all network, win elections and get something constructive accomplished. You obviously prefer the circular firing squad approach that has made us our own worst enemy for decades.

Thanks, Disgusted! I appreciate the defense. It gets tiring, being attacked from the right and left at once. But that's life. Thanks for chiming in.

You know, this morning I found out that Perlmutter's new ad is about stem cell research... what was he thinking? That's the last damn thing I would have centered my ad out, especially if I was the underdog in the race.

Ed, get real. Nice try though, we applaud your efforts.

In Ed Perlmutter's favor, he has been a steadfast supporter of Bill Winter. He also has been a strong supporter of Joe Rice. The first time I met Ed was at the Rice kick-off party months ago and have seen him at other events supporting other great Dems since then.

He also supports the Murtha plan for responsible redeployment, probably the least flaky plan out there from the Dem congressman with the most military street cred on the subject.

And let's not forget that very early on, Lamm decided not to go the caucus route, while Perlmutter trusted in grassroots Dems, the ones who actually show up and make things happen, to get his name on the primary ballot the grassroots way. Food for thought while looking for an end to this unfortunate Dem food fight.

Screw ColoradoTrolls. They couln't predict their way out of a paper bag. Lamm supporters and apologists keep talking about the Lake poll, yet nobody has seen it. And Herb doesn't have a chance. He holds some very contraversial positions that he has not been able to come up with an acceptable defense for them. O'Donnell would tear him apart over them and he would lose Democratic votes in the process. But, I'm sorry. Guess that I'm being stridently divisive.
