Both Ways Bob's most recent flip-flop confirmed
The Both Ways Bob Beauprez flip-flop I alleged this morning has been confirmed by the The Rocky Mountain News:
Congressman Bob Beauprez withdrew his support Friday for a controversial ballot measure that is opposed by much of the business community, prompting a leading supporter to accuse him of betrayal.
Hm, Bob pulled a much-anticipated flip-flop on the Friday before a long holiday weekend. Coincidence? Probably not.
Yeah, I'm glad Both Ways Bob is finally seeing things Bill Ritter's way. But I continue to be amazed by Bob's capacity for flakiness. The guy can't hold a principled position for more than eight seconds.
On the bright side, if Racine's ever needs a name for a giant plate of waffles, they can call it "The Beauprez."

I believe we have found the first living example of a human being without a spine able to stand upright--long enough, at least, to accept shady campaign contributions and cast a vote the way the lobbyist tells him to.
Speaking of flip floppers. My friend attended the Fem Dems breakfast today as a supporter of Peggy Lamm and left supporting Herb Rubenstein. Both Lamm and Perlmutter sent out mail not even mentioning Iraq. Rubenstein has the guts to stand up for the immediate withdrawal of US troops.
Democrats need to realize that they cannot duck taking a stand on Iraq.

Maybe Perlmutter and Lamm are more than single issue candidates and realize that while the war is a vitally important issue, so is health care, education, and proper representation in Congress.
But...if you think the war in Iraq is the only issue that should define your vote, then yep, sounds like Rubenstein is your man.
I'm not going to argue that the war is important. I don't think hypothetical congressman Rubenstein will single handedly bring an end to it by calling for withdrawal.
It would be nice if Perlmutter made some clearer statements on the Iraq War, but Rubenstein's "plan" is just as much a pipe dream as the neo-con plan for the initial invasion was a pipe dream. We can either make an anti-war symbolic statement by choosing Rubenstein as our candidate or we can have an excellent chance of winning in a highly competitive district with Perlmutter who has the national level support, is a very fine candidate and is progressive on all the important issues. As far as Rubenstein "leading" that isn't what freshman congressmen get to do. Both Rubenstein and Perlmutter can be counted on to vote with the majority of Democrats on a solid feasible plan for redeployment with the goal of withdrawal over a reasonable period of time. That's the best we've been able to do so far and even if a handful of Dems hadn't voted with the Republicans, we wouldn't have had enough to pass it because we are the MINORITY.
If the Dems take back the house, it's very possible that a newly confident and empowered Democratic party will be willing to go much farther towards ending the war and will have the power to do much more than make statements about it.
Perlmutter has an exponentially better chance of getting elected. So do we want the satisfaction of having made a kick-ass statement or do we want to add to our sides voting power and contribute to taking back the house? That means subpoena power, chairing committees, deciding what makes it to a vote, real congressional oversight, controlling the purse strings, even the possibility of impeachment. NOTHING is more important than taking back the house (except also taking back the Senate). After that we can worry about EVERYTHING else.
