Speaking of sleazy, here comes Rubber Stamp Rick!

Republican CD7 candidate Rick O'Donnell hasn't even been elected. And yet he has already managed to prompt an ethics investigation.

Rubber Stamp Rick is refusing to turn over the list of attendees at a recent campaign event. The O'Donnell campaign had illegally used the federal title of the featured speaker, EPA Administrator Stephen L. Johnson, to publicize the event

I know of at least two people who have filed FOIA requests to force O'Donnell to turn over the list so they can see if anyone at the event had business before the EPA. One of those people is CD7 Democratic candidate Herb Rubenstein. The other is super blogger and Ed Perlmutter volunteer TBTH .

Herb Rubenstein is a man who takes action. Herb had the brains to file an FOIA request to get the list of those who went to O'Donnell's sleazy luncheon.
Herb is the only candidate talking about the War in Iraq and a rational national health care policy.

Actually Anon, Herb's filing was a little bit after Perlmutter's people and I were already on it.

In fact, Herb's filing was in response to this article in the Denver Post.
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_3598967

The headline is, "Perlmutter wants names of those at O'Donnell event"

While I like the spin of "Herb Rubenstein Man of Action" the truth is that he is more a man of policy debate, and I think he scored more points when he said he wanted to stay on issues and not on scandal.

Don't get me wrong. I am the muckiest of muck rakers, and think that is good for most campaigns, and healthy for the body politic. We should call the Republicans on it when they break the law, and I want a candidate like Perlmutter who is not afraid to hold the Republicans to account.

I just don't think Herb is at all the man to lead this type of fight. He would make a decent consultant to a congressman, but I don't think he is following his highest principles when he tries to posture as a candidate in this way.

Some low level flunky in the Perlmutter operation filed the FOIA
request. Herb is the one who took real action.
Herb is against the War. Ed and Peggy are against the war in private and in public say nothing that differs substantively from President Bush.
When will they bring our troops home? Herb will vote to bring our troops home by July 1, 2007.

I need to jump on here. TBTH from the Perlmutter campaign is a friend. And he works very hard for his candidate. Just because he is a volunteer doesn't make him a low level flunky. Anonymous, I appreciate your passion for the Rubenstein campaign. I like Herb, too. But try to keep the personal attacks to a minimum.

Does anybody actually watch a 7th CD debate and get the impression that Perlmutter will stand up to Republicans? I see Herb leading the charge against O'Donnell, and it is probably better that way, because he is the one consistently making a stand.

I like Herb as well, but also have to admit that I think Herb's strength is in policy debate, not necessarily being a man of the people. Perhaps with time he can play that card, but I don't think his personality or charisma is quite there yet.

Also, we all have to remember to play nice no matter how passionate we are about one candidate or the other. Only one will move on, and then we all have to either raise a glass to celebrate, or swallow our pride and then get busy getting a Democrat elected in CD 7.
