Guest post from Bill Winter. Please cross-post.
The Cost Of WarYesterday morning I went to the meeting of the United Veterans Committee of Colorado, an organization that brings various veteran's advocate groups together. Tom Tancredo showed up late, spoke for five minutes, and left, but an interesting thing happened while he was there.
Mr. "Let's Nuke Mecca" spent his whole five minute speech talking about all the "positive" things being done in Iraq. Most of what he said was provably untrue. I don't know if he was actually lying, or just doesn't know what he's talking about. Either way it's a shame that he chooses to put partisanship above the welfare of America and our troops.
At any rate, Mr. Tancredo was asked what he thought about an article in Lancet, a British medical journal. He was told that the article says that over 100,000 Iraqi children have died as a result of American sanctions and bombs. His response was, and I quote, "That's the cost of war. People die."
100,000 dead children is nothing more to him than the cost of war. Last Saturday night I attended an immigration forum at the University of Denver. Mr. Tancredo was a panelist. A Denver immigration lawyer pointed out that some 4,000 people had died in the desert last year alone as a result of our current immigration policies. Mr. Tancredo's supporters responded with cries of "So what?" and Mr. Tancredo said all those people should have gone to a "port of entry" and then they wouldn't have died.
This is a man who wants to limit a woman's freedom to make her own choices about her body, and wants to outlaw abortion completely because he says every fetus is a human being and every fetus must be protected. But when 4,000 people die in the desert, he doesn't mind at all, and when 100,000 children are killed, he calls it "the cost of war."
Well I'm going to send this guy into retirement and then we can call THAT the cost of war too!
Please donate to the campaign now and help me take back America!

Go Bill! Good luck!! Watch your back though, these guys aren't afraid of a little wetwork - obvious from their clear disregard for human life.

If 100,000 kids have died in Iraq, it because of So-damn Insane not the US armed forces. Hard to believe vets hate America so much.
I finally got a crazy wingnut flame on my blog. How awesome. It's like coloradolib has been validated. No longer can anyone say I'm preaching to the choir.
Seriously, saying Bill Winter hates America is nuts. The guy loves this country enough to risk his life for it. And he loves it enough to run for congress when he feels like its headed in the wrong direction.
Buff Driver again (I call myself that because I flew B-52s over Hanoi): Winter risked his life for his country? Was he ever in combat? I think not. If he wanted to help his country, he'd stay in the Republican Party. The poor Dems have had a positive idea since 1994!
PS. You sure have freaky tastes in music, movies, et al.
Buff Driver, thank you for your service for our country. Thank you for posting.
"Bill joined the Marine Corps when he was 17 and went to boot camp just a couple weeks after high school graduation. He served in the Marine Reserve for four years in an artillery unit… Almost immediately after the Orange Bowl, he left for basic training again, this time in the U.S. Navy. He joined the Navy to pay for the last year of college, to learn a skill, and to see the world. Bill was chosen Outstanding Recruit in his basic training Company, and subsequently earned honors and awards at every posting he had in the Navy."
As I'm sure you know, volunteering for the military means you are willing to trade your life for your country. I respect both you and Bill for doing that.
Well! I consider myself an American first before I consider myself a Republican. It sure do seems that some of my fellow Republican have forgotten their allegiance to this country first. I and my family voted for Republics for all their life and it just disgusts me that our trust was betrayed by this president and our congressman Tancredo for so long.I just can't seem to get over George Tenet remarks of "Slam Dunk" and this administration refusal to bring people to justice who get us into this hedious war.
I sure will not vote Republican this coming election but I am not going to vote Democratic either. They are all crooks.
