Conservative blogs more effective
New York Times reporter Michael Crowley writes that "'Liberals use the Web to air ideas and vent grievances with one another, often ripping into Democratic leaders... Conservatives, by contrast, skillfully use the Web to provide maximum benefit for their issues and candidates...' Crowley then comments that what really makes the conservative blogs allegedly more effective is the infrastructure provided by Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and others, 'all of which are quick to pass on the latest tidbit from the blogosphere.'" I refuse to apologize for "airing ideas." But from here on, if you catch me venting grievances against Democrats or "ripping into Democratic leaders," feel free to call me on it.

I think that most conservative blogs are just dissemination points for their daily talking points. I'm not sure that this method of getting everybody on the same page is as effective as it has been in the recent past, outside of their base. You can't help but notice that every conservative politician and talking head not only voices the same opinions but also uses almost exactly the same words and phrases. When conservatives call in to liberal talk radio shows, they just parrot the talking points. When challenged with facts and information they just seem lost. They usually wind up hanging up on the host after refusing to answer any questions except with repetitions of the talking point. Of course lefties can't get past screeners to say anything on conservative talk radio, probably because conservative hosts don't want their listeners to hear any challenges. The polls, though, seem to show that most people are no longer buying what these folks are selling. In any case, while we can certainly do a better job of coming up with snappy, concise messages, Dems will never be able to give up thinking for themselves and listening to what others think, so our blog world is always going to be a little messy compared with theirs.
