The coloradolib straw poll
Blogs intrigue me partially because they give Internet users a context in which to discuss their opinions. Since many posts on coloradolib go without comments, I'd always assumed my readership consisted mostly of me.
Yesterday, I grudgingly decided to check my traffic reports for the first time since launching the site. And I was stunned to see that I have nearly 100 unique visitors each weekday - not counting Internet worms or robots. So a bashful thank you is in order.
There seem to be enough of you for me to run my very own straw poll. Let's pick on something simple, like the 2006 election. Who's your dream governor? (No, you can't vote for Bill Clinton.)
Holtzman (R) - anounced
Beauprez (R) - announced
Coffman (R) - rumored
Ritter (D) - announced
Romanoff (D) - rumored
Gordon (D) - rumored
Hickenlooper (D) - rumored
Thibault (D) - rumored

I will start this off myself. Cue a drum roll, please. The winner is Bill Ritter. Why? Because I want a goveror who wants the job. And the hemming and hawing of the other Democrats is turning me off. While I disagree with Ritter on choice, for me that issue ranks below the environment, accountability, the economy and a couple other issues.
OK, your turn.
Romanoff or Hickenlooper. Both are relatively young guys who aren't afraid of new ideas. Hickenlooper really seems to love Colorado.
I am content with Ritter. I am not a one issue voter. Yes, his position on choice is troubling. But, I did have a private conversation with him following one of his public appearances. His view is little more broad than his public stance...and for good reason. He will appeal to the state-wide concerns. To win the Gov's race he has to appeal to more people than just the left-wing libs.
I don't want a dem primary for the Gov's race. There are far more important ways to spend our money, i.e. CD 7. We need to have the one issue NARAL contingent shut up and sit this one out.
Ritter wants the job, has a reputation of speaking the truth, and said he will not change settled law. He is strong on 80%+ of our progressive issues and can win. Other Dems are are great but are reluctant to challenge the Republicans and lead our party in this fight. I will support a fighter and hold him to his word that he won't revise settled law on choice. Choose yourself, Ritter or Beauprez.
My vote is for Romanoff. He has demonstrated an ability to think clearly, negotiate a bi-partisan effort and lead our state during the difficult struggle to pass Referendum C. He is intelligent and articulate. He would be good for the future of Colorado.
Hickenlooper
